Committed to creating safer environments, this project addressed the pressing issue of gender-based violence. Our main goal is to combat the insidious shadows of gender-based violence (GBV) and empower women and girls to reclaim their right to a life free from fear. This done through:

Amplifying Voices

This involved Community Dialogues which aim on breaking the silence through facilitated discussions in villages, schools, and faith-based institutions, fostering understanding and dismantling harmful social norms.

Media Engagement.

Partnering with local radio stations and newspapers to create informative campaigns and amplify survivor stories, reaching even the most remote corners.

Capacity Building

Our project involved training of ward children and women protection committees, healthcare workers, police officers, and social workers to effectively respond to GBV cases with empathy and expertise. The organization also establishing and training community-based committees to address GBV concerns, creating lasting networks of support beyond the project timeline.

Economic Empowerment.

We established women income generating groups and linked them with income-generating opportunities for fostering independence and breaking the cycle of vulnerability. The project resonated in every corner of the targeted communities. Over 3,000 individuals participated in awareness campaigns, 200 youth activists emerged as champions of change, and 50 survivors found refuge and support in the established safe spaces. This ripple effect empowered local authorities to allocate resources for GBV prevention programs, marking a significant shift in policy and commitment.

6. Enhanced Access to Justice through Legal Aid services (2017-2020)

In 2017, KASODEFO organisation was contracted by the Legal Services Facility (LSF), to run an Access to justice programme as regional mentor organisation (RMO) of Simiyu region. This role entailed establishing paralegal units in each district, provide capacity development and sub-granting the units on behalf of LSF. The four-year project titled "Enhanced access to justice through the sustainable provision of legal aid in the Simiyu region" from 2017 to 2020.

We provided legal aid and legal education to marginalized communities, ensuring equal access to justice and protecting their rights. We are Empowering individuals with legal aid services, this project aimed to enhance access to justice, ensuring that marginalized communities could assert their rights and receive fair representation. In this project we worked with paralegals in five districts of Simiyu region. We had five paralegal units which worked in the community level. Our organization was a Regional Mentor organization (RMO) which not only mentor paralegals but also provide legal aid services as the registered legal aid service provider.

The KASODEFO team adopted a ‘’4A’s approach’’ to mean Availability, Acceptability, Affordability and Accessibility to legal aid. With this approach of 4A’s, it has brought benefits, the positioning of paralegals at ward level is advantageous to legal aid provision because assure proximity of the service to people. The service of the Paralegals is affordable since it’s free to contact the Paralegal, the service is accessible since Paralegals are living in the same community and they are available all the time. The community accept the paralegals because are the respective members of their communities.

Legal aid services now available in all districts and all the time. In each district, KASODEFO supported the establishment of registered organisation and paralegals distributed to their respective wards. The paralegals offer legal education and legal assistance to community members, as well as work closely with local government leaders and other informal leaders like the clan and religious leaders.
