Kawiye Social Development Foundation (KASODEFO ) Project

  1. 1. Implementation of community based malaria activities (Ongoing project)

Kawiye Social Development Foundation is working with National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), PORALG in Simiyu Region through RHMTs and CHMTs under the coordination of the Regional and District Malaria Focal Persons to provide nnecessary community mobilization and sensitization for malaria interventions at the lower level in intensively promote positive uptake of the interventions by individuals and community members.

More specifically the project objectives are;

  1. 1. Promote cconsistent and proper use of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs), LLIN care and repair
  2. 2. Adress misconceptions around the uptake of malaria interventions and specifically misconceptions around LLINs
  3. 3. Promote other malaria preventive methods e.g Larva source Management through environment management and bio-larviciding by encouraging community involvement and participation
  4. 4. Encourage appropriate treatment seeking behavior, testing and treatment services for all suspect malaria patients
  5. 5. Promote prevention of malaria during pregnancy by pregnant women early ANC attendance, getting LLINs during the first visit and completing 3+ doses of IPTp.
  6. 6. To increase visibility of “Zero Malaria Starts With Me” campaign at the community level.

2. Improve Lives Through Nutrition (2017-2023)

KASODEFO operating from 2017 to 2023, implemented a transformative nutrition project in Maswa District, Tanzania. The project's core objectives to improve nutritional status through providing fortified food baskets to children living with HIV at Maswa District Hospital and Sangamwalugesha Dispensary. To promote income generation and nutritional diversity we are supporting women and youth groups in poultry farming, fostering self-reliance and access to protein-rich food. We also to empower communities. We are conducting ongoing nutritional education sessions for children and people living with HIV, fostering informed dietary choices
.

The Kawiye Social Development Foundation's nutrition project yielded significant results, positively impacting the lives of children living with HIV, vulnerable women and youth, and the broader Maswa community. The project not only addressed immediate nutritional needs but also fostered long-term sustainability through income generation and community education. Improved nutritional status:
Over 100 children living with HIV received regular food baskets, demonstrably improving their nutritional intake and overall health.
